Camille (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace) is the daughter of Ernesto Montes, once a powerful figure in the Bolivian military junta. As a girl she witnessed General Medrano murder her father, mother and older sister. Medrano then burned the house down; Camille still bears the scars from her escape on her back. Camille vows revenge on Medrano. After discovering a connection between Dominic Greene and Medrano she infiltrates Greene’s organisation. Bond kills an assassin sent by Greene to kill Camille after he discovers that she tried to buy secret documents relating to his Tierra Project. Having escaped the assassin Camille is then handed over to Medrano by Greene but her chance to kill Medrano is foiled by Bond. After joining forces with Bond to investigate Greene’s Tierra Project, Camille finally confronts and kills Medrano at the Perla de las Dunas hotel.
The producers had intended to cast a South American actress in the role. Kurylenko trained with a dialect coach to perform with a Spanish accent. She said that the accent was easy for her because she has “a lot of hispanic friends, from Latin America and Spain, and it’s an accent I’ve always heard”. When reflecting on her experience as a Bond girl, she stated she was most proud of overcoming her fears in performing stunts.
Barbara Broccoli has said that she intends for Camille to return for a future film. If this happens, Camille will become the first Bond girl to make a return appearance since Eunice Gayson, as Sylvia Trench, appeared in Dr. No and From Russia with Love, albeit as a minor character.
Being the film’s main Bond girl, Camille is the only main Bond girl not to sleep with James Bond. Major villainous Xenia Onatopp also did not sleep with Bond, however she was not the Bond girl in the GoldenEye, she was the villain.
